Invisible Cities
INVISIBLE CITIES inspired by Italo Calvino's " Invisible Cities"
"Art is not about reproducing what is visible but about making visible what is not" Paul Klee.
Fascinated by this idea, I proposed to make real "The Invisible Cities" of Italo Calvino's book, in which the protagonist Marco Polo, having arrived in the East, is commissioned by the Emperor to describe the cities of his Empire and we, following his journey, are led to compare the complex crisis of archaic cities with that of modern metropolises.
A serious crisis, which has manifested itself even more in recent times with the global problems of climate change, forcing us to revolutionize lifestyles and to launch the message of the urgent need for a balanced integration between the fragile natural environment that surrounds us and the urban agglomerations, orienting us towards more human-scale projects, as already achieved by Pius II in Pienza, the "ideal city" of the Renaissance and the place of origin of my family.
In the works of this series I tell the fragility of life in cities, creating surreal and metaphysical architectures and urban agglomerations that contain dreams, worries and memories out of time and in a space that can be anywhere.
Those who observe them will be stimulated to take a journey with their imagination and to reflect on what cities, the centre of human activities and a mirror of social evolution, represent for each of us, questioning ourselves as citizens and communities in search of possible solutions towards a sustainable future.
